Engine Diagnostics & Check Engine Light
That check engine light means your car is asking for help. We use advanced diagnostic tools to read fault codes accurately and explain exactly what they mean.
Learn MoreWhether your AC blows warm air or your heater fails in winter, our team diagnoses and repairs climate control systems quickly to restore comfort year-round.
Michigan weather doesn't mess around. Detroit winters push temperatures well below freezing, and summers regularly hit the 90s with high humidity. A reliable climate control system isn't a luxury here. It's a safety issue in January and a quality-of-life issue from May through September. When your AC blows warm air or your heater starts blowing cold, East Side Auto Center can diagnose and fix the problem quickly.
Our technicians handle the full spectrum of automotive climate control systems, from a basic AC recharge to a heater core replacement on a vehicle that's been blowing cold air all winter. We work on all makes and models, including vehicles with dual-zone and automatic climate control systems.
AC recharge (refrigerant recharge) is the most common AC service. Over time, refrigerant slowly escapes through micro-leaks in hose connections and fittings. When the system is low on refrigerant, the AC compressor can't build adequate pressure and the air coming through the vents turns warm. We evacuate the old refrigerant, check for leaks, and recharge the system to the manufacturer's specified capacity using R-134a or R-1234yf depending on your vehicle's year and model.
AC compressor failure is the most significant AC repair. The compressor is the heart of the system. It pressurizes the refrigerant and drives the cooling cycle. A seized or weak compressor means no cold air regardless of refrigerant level. We inspect the compressor clutch, the compressor itself, and the related components (condenser, expansion valve, receiver-drier) before recommending replacement, ensuring the underlying cause is addressed so the new compressor doesn't fail prematurely.
Condenser and evaporator service, expansion valve replacement, and AC line repairs round out our air conditioning capabilities. A Detroit summer in a car without working AC is genuinely miserable. Let us fix it before the heat season hits.
Heater core replacement is the most complex heating repair. The heater core is a small radiator mounted inside the dashboard that routes hot coolant through a heat exchanger. When your blower motor pushes air across it, you get heat in the cabin. When the heater core develops a leak, you lose heat, your windshield fogs up with a greasy film, and you may notice a sweet coolant smell inside the car. Replacement requires significant dashboard disassembly but restores full heat output.
Blower motor failures and blower motor resistor failures are more straightforward repairs. If your blower only works on high speed or doesn't work at all, the resistor pack that controls fan speeds is typically the culprit. It's a straightforward and affordable repair. A completely dead blower motor is replaced as a unit.
Thermostat replacement addresses a different heating failure mode: an engine that takes a very long time to warm up in cold weather, or one that never quite reaches normal operating temperature. A stuck-open thermostat lets coolant circulate constantly, preventing the engine from warming up and reducing cabin heat output significantly during a Detroit winter.
